Teen Summer Interns Launch New Kiosk Business in Town Square Interns will manage, operate “Vegas Curbside” LAS VEGAS—

Today, summer interns celebrated the grand opening of their new business in Town Square. Sixteen teen interns, through the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce, will operate and manage “Vegas Curbside”, a kiosk business at Town Square that will sell souvenir merchandise.

The interns will be managing all functions of the business including merchandising, staffing, sales, customer service, marketing and public relations. The kiosk is located in Town Square, next to Claim Jumper and across from Banana Republic. The kiosk will be open in Town Square daily through July 31.

A percentage of the profits will be donated to a local non-profit charity, as determined by the interns. This is an opportunity for the teens to learn about corporate giving and the valuable role that many businesses play in supporting local charities and positively impacting the community.

In addition, the teens will be working within the various Chamber departments, giving them additional career experience in an area of their choice including human relations, government affairs, public relations, marketing, finance, event management, web design, graphic design and information technology.

This unique entrepreneurial experience is through a partnership between the 2009 Summer Business Institute (SBI) and the Summer Work for Youth Program who are providing interns for the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce. Town Square is serving as a partner in supporting this new kiosk venture.

SBI is a program of the Clark County Community Resources Management Division. Summer Work for Youth Program is managed by Manpower for the State of Nevada – Dept. of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation and the Southern Nevada Workforce Investment Board. The goal of both programs is to provide teens with valuable job experiences.
